Lario Therapeutics Secures $2.4M from The Michael J. Fox Foundation and Wellcome to Advance Neuronal Calcium Channel Platform for CNS Disorders

Edinburgh (United Kingdom) – Golgi Neurosciences is honoured to announce that its portfolio company, Lario Therapeutics Ltd, a preclinical stage biotech developing first-in-class precision medicines targeting disease-modifying treatments for severe neurological disorders, has been awarded $2.4 million in a new grant funding from The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) and Wellcome. The funding will accelerate the expansion of Lario’s neuronal calcium channel drug discovery platform.

MJFF has committed $1.5 million to advance Lario’s research on Cav1.3 target, a high priority target within the MJFF’s Targets to Therapies initiative aimed at identifying promising disease modifying strategies for Parkinson’s disease. This remarkable achievement follows MJFF’s previous $6 million grant in 2024 supporting Lario’s preclinical work on Cav2.3 modulators.

In parallel, Wellcome has awarded $900,000 to support validation of Cav2.3 in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), building on genetic research linking CACNA1E, the gene encoding Cav2.3, to increased risk of the condition.

Golgi Neurosciences congratulates Lario Therapeutics team on achieving this significant milestone, which further strengthens Lario’s pipeline of innovative therapies for neurological disorders.
